Demography

Brazil’s population is mostly located down the East Atlantic Coast, mainly on the South in three main cities Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia and Sao Paulo. Brazil has traditionally been a recipient of immigrants first with the slave trade, years later promoted European immigration, especially from Germany, Spain and Italy. A major wave of Japanese established in Brazil to work in coffee plantations. Nowadays, the major source of immigration are neighbouring Latin American countries.

Geography

Brazil is located in Eastern South America, being by far the largest country in the region. It shares borders with ten Latin American nations. Brazil is the sixth largest country in the world, and its size is so massive that all of Europe would fit in its territory, except for Russia.

Brazil has been involved in a political turmoil for the last couple of years, scandals of corruption leaded to the impeachment of elected president Dilma Roussef in 2016, succeeded by Vice-president Michel Temer, current acting Brazilian President.

Economics

Brazil is the eighth largest economy in the world, and part of the Common Market of the South MERCOSUR trade bloc. Along with China, India and Russia, it is one of the BRIC countries, which were the fastest growing emerging markets before the 2009 crisis. The projection given by the London based consultancy firm PWC (PricewaterhouseCooper) is that Brazil has the potential to become the fifth largest economy in the world by 2050.
