SOFIA (Bulgaria)

Sofia, the most important city of Bulgaria, has a history that dates back 7,000 years when the Romans ruled the world, then called ‘Serdica’, governed by the Ottoman empire for centuries and finally in the late 1800’s became Bulgaria’s capital, after WWII the city fell under Soviet control.

Sofia showcases its history and mixed cultural influences in its architecture, as you wander around you will find onion shape churches, roman ruins and modern developments built with the goal of boosting the city into a European metropolis, the Soviet presence is evident in many buildings around the city. Just on the outskirts of Sofia there is plenty of green areas to take a break. For ski lovers, the slopes of Mt. Vitosha are just thirty minutes away.
