seems you are not the only one this happens to,this happened to a friend of mine this week who bought a small car on an extremely tight budget.

more and more people are shipping their own from the uk to save themselves getting turned over by the sharks.

personally i would contact the police but it will probably come down to your word against his, after that i would send the dealers details and your problem to the car registration/road tax authorities.

in the uk its illegal for a dealer to release a vehicle that is not road legal it should be the same here but if it is the law is regularly ignored.

good luck.

If the dealer has not transferred the vehicle into your name then he is responsible if you get stopped by the police, however if the dealer has transferred the vehicle into your name you become responsible for the two years unpaid road tax.

Either way I would have a word with the local police station and discuss it with them.
