Just go to the bank with your passport and cash to deposit, they will open an account without any problems. They won't give you a credit card and it might take a while to get a debit card, but if you just need an account that should be sufficient.

Hi Meira,

The bank will want you to prove you are who you say you are and where you live. So as well as your letter confirming your employment in Cyprus and your lease agreement. They will want to see your passport and another form of ID too. If you have details of your previous bank account, credit card and utility bills they are also worth having with you.

If you already know the bank you want to open an account with ring the branch and ask them exactly what paperwork they need to see. Then if they ask for two forms of ID take three etc.

All this is best done face to face at what will be your local branch of your chosen bank as it will be processed much quicker. We've found here in Cyprus that getting to know your local branch staff is really useful and saves time when you want to do something other than a simple transaction.
