Yes, Paul, Maria is a very hospitable hostess as well as an excellent cook. Fortunately for us we live in walking distance .........:-)

Good point Graham, Maria's in Koilani is well worth a detor although I would recommend with a word of warning - We had so much food one lunch time after ordering a small meze (all wonderfully cooked) that we stayed for the whole afternoon and almost burst at the seams when we got up to leave.

The Argentinian Restaurant in Kakopetria old town takes a lot of beating, as well as steaks to die for, beef all the way from Argentina, they do traditional Cypriot fare. The host Victor and his wife are very hospitable and welcoming.

Depending on how much of detour you want to make, Maria's in Koilani is hard to beat for quality, hospitality and value. Koilani is about 10 minutes off the B8 (turn left at Saittas, just above Trimiklini) and is about 12k from Platres. Otherwise Makris, on the right of th B8 betweem Moniatis and Platres, is pretty good.

Having eaten many times in both I can wholeheartedly agree with both the above posts. Mimis has an a varied menu, traditional, fish, pizzas, steaks (dianne, pepper etc) whereas Moniatis has basic greek. Both are excellent value for money as well.

We nearly always eat at Mimis in Platras, very friendly and good food. situated on the left oposite the Laiki bank.

We (that is, the royal we) have always found that the Platinos at Moniatis on the main road towards Platres very reliable. It is on the left hand side of the road after a long straight drive from Trimiklini/Saittas. It is a small place, does basic food but is has always been good. The people running it have always been pleasant as well.
