Tahinopita sold in bakeries is full of sugar you can even see the sugar mixed with the tahini all over it!!

Make your own and use a sugar substitute or something....

Here's the recipe, make your own judgement based on the severity of your diabetes.

Ingredients

1 ¼ cups flour

1 cup quick oats 3 ¼ tsp baking powder ¾ tsp salt 1 tsp cinnamon ¾ cup tahini ¾ cup orange juice ½ cup sugar ¾ cup raisins 1/4 cup chopped hazelnuts 2 tbsp pine nuts 1/2 cup honey, warmed until runny
Directions Preheat oven to 350º. Grease & flour an 8" springform pan. Sift together the flour, oats, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon, set aside. Beat together tahini and orange juice with electric beaters. Add sugar and beat until smooth. Add the dry ingredients and mix well with a wooden spoon. Stir in the raisins and nuts. This will be very thick. Press the dough into the prepared pan, using slightly wet fingers to press the dough into place. Bake for 35 minutes. Let cool in pan 10 minutes. Poke several holes into (but not through) cake, pour warm honey over. Let sit 30 minutes, then remove from pan and cool on a wire rack.

Around half a cup of sugar in every pie. You decide whether that's good or bad!

Takhinopita, pronounced Tashinopita in Cyprus has always been and is very bad for diabetes. Each pie may contain up to half a cup of sugar.

Hi

I would say that traditional tahinopitta would be very good for diabetics.

But what is sold in modern bakeries would not be. I don't know where you would not find traditional ones as most that is genuine in Cyprus has now gone.
