The main facilities to support women and children suffering from verbal or physical abuse, divorce or custody problems (including access to sheltered accomodation, legal advice etc) are in Lefkosia.

There was an interesting story on this subject a year ago about the shelters, you can read it here.

For contact details of the Apanemi Shelter and Support Group go here.

Just some background. A few years back I got to know a very nice woman called Julia Kalimeri. She was very successfl and managed to get various grants. She set up shelters and an excellent service in various towns. The place in Limassol - Aponemi - was lovely - an old house across from Starbucks.

But she came up against the government social services. She was also outspoken, I think things therefore turned against her. The shelter and serices in Limassol are no longer there. I haven't been in touch with Julia for some years. She lived in Nicosia and would be a great person to speak to, with so much experience.
