Replacing a fused spur with a timer etc would mean you have no safe method of isolating an appliance if the fused spur was the only means of isolation.

If you replace the switch only I believe you still comply, as you have the MCB as well as the earth leakage trip to protect the appliance, and provide isolation. A short circuit will probably destroy the timer, but the appliance should survive if the MCB's are correctly sized.

If you are looking at fitting one of these switches take heed.

It is common practice to replace the fused switch with one of these timers, (this contravenes electrical regulations as a semi-conductor device must not be used as a means of isolation) which also removes any protection the unit may have against surges, this power surge will then destroy the switch and irrepairably damage your air con unit. A new unit will cost minimum for a small one 300 euros without fitting. I speak from experience if you are thinking of letting your place this is a major safety issue you need to consider.

Dont play with electrics.

These switches sell for around €54. each at electrical wholesalers in Limassol. Cheaper in the U.K. but you have to add on shipping.

From your comments you obviously have little knowledge of electrical installation and, make a mistake, you will destroy the switch.

All depends on what you call 'a reasonable price'.............?????
