Put a small dish containing beer near to the veggies. The snails will make their way in and they will not be able to get out (I know the feeling). This is serious, I do it this way myself.

I was tempted to say ask Bill and Ben, sorry!

I found that crushed egg shells around the plants helped.

Forgot to say that sligs are easy to sort out, just put salt on them and they disappear, literally!

For the snails, just collect them from the garden, put them in a large saucepan with some flour and leave them for a couple of days to clean out their insides. Then wash, cook, and eat them. Do this a few times and no more snails!
