We had a little rescue poodle until she was 14 years old. Every time we took her to the groomer she plucked old hair out of her ears. There is no doubt this is a job that has to be done by the experienced, but this has to be done for poodles. The hair seems to grow inwards and down and has to be plucked out. The best thing is to take your dog to vet for advice. Have fun with your poodle they're great little dogs.

Hi Townie, you don't say what symptoms the dog has? Itching, constant scratching, or head shaking?

Is there any evidence of yellowish discharge in the ear?

Is there a musty smell if you hold your nose close to your dogs ear?

Canker can be difficult to treat, but drops are available.

Plucking the hair from the ears allows air to move freely and help stop canker etc. Lots of breeds suffer ear problems.

Don't give up. There are many knowledgeable people out there.
