Ignore my comment above, the rules have totally changed since I last looked and it's got much more complicated for second hand cars.

Les Impots do take your word for the mileage if you don't mind lieing on official documents.

Les Impots don't check the miles/kilometres for a quittus fiscale they just take your word for it.

All they are interested in is the sales invoice.

Yes, why don't people read replies?, it's 6 months OR 6,000 miles, the OP says 2,500 miles on the clock.

BUT..it is NOT less than 6 months old but it does have low low mileage.

Why dont people READ the original post before making inane replies???

If a vehicle is less than 6 months old or has less than 6,000 m on the clock it is deemed by HMRC to have been purchased for export, therefore you reclaim the UK VAT paid and pay the VAT in it's destination country.

Not quite that simple for new or low mileagee cars countrydweller. You are liable for tax to be paid in France as well.

If you have paid VAT in the uk at the time of purchase and have an invoice to that effect then you will not have to pay VAT in France

Or just lie? Nobody would question the mileage of a two year old car.
