hi rockandroll2

We tuned into ITV Midlands ,, and The One Show. Fantastic tribute shows, very sad. The last Defender came off the track, it was Solihull. The reason they have finished manufacturing them, is because they are like Lego kits, each part is replaceable, they drive through flooded areas, and tow people out.... They go through muddy fields, up Mountains. You feel safe when travelling in a Landrover. They look great. When you see one on the road, toot and wave.

My Landy is 30 years old this year so will be having a party.  Its been overland to Vladivostok and to South Africa.  The rather underpowered 2.5 nat asp engine gave up very early on and its run on a Nissan 3.5 Turbo for the last 25 years and probably more.

A get together sounds like a good idea.

I am lucky enough to have a 110 defender County 12 seater station wagon. One of the loves of my life !

The Brussels 'reason' is almost certainly a Tata red herring .The Defender is almost completely hand-built , unlike all the  other models in the range ,which are produced almost entirely  by robots.

Thus it is too  expensive to produce in UK.. Manufacturing in India would not be a problem as the cost of labour is so much lower .

I have owned three Discovery's and been thrilled with their capability, on and off road .

Now ,in my dotage ,but still towing a caravan ,I have gone for a RR sport.

Very comfortable ,quiet and tows superbly ........but do not ask about fuel consumption !!
