"However, the local office said it can't be done, and that we would need to take out extra cover in the country in which we find ourselves after the 90 days has expired"

That just sounds plain stupid- how can you take out extra cover in the UK or whatever country you are in?-give BML at Dinan a call- they seem to be a able to make sense of most French bizarre insurance situations.

Thanks, Fitter, for your reply.  We  have a clean driving record, no accidents, no claims, and thought that it would be a simple matter for Axa to extend the cover on the comprehensive policy - and were quite willing to pay for this. (Whoever heard of an insurance company refusing money?).

However, the local office said it can't be done, and that we would need to take out extra cover in the country in which we find ourselves after the 90 days has expired! Craziness...

I'm sure there must be companies out there who offer comp cover to motorhome owners, and have contacted the other person (Joe - Huelgoat) kind enough to respond.

We have no restrictions with Generali via direct agent.

Your motorhome is covered for 90 days toutes risques but the rest of the time it has to be by law covered to the minimum of what in the UK is called minimum legal third party only - this will give you legal cover in all countries of the EU plus I think  Switzerland and Norway(but check up on this).

You need to ask your insurance company why they can only cover you toute risques for only 90 days - they will probably extend cover for a nominal fee.
