The "horsey people" were breeders of endurance horses, that was their main business, not gites.

Exactly, what idiot advise the horsey owner gave. 50% tax on gite earning, what rubbish. Obviously he had no idea. And those properies - ridiculously way overpriced, just shows what little research they did on French properties.
