Don't forget your local Mairie - they will have details of the associations in your area which may interest your son, or they may be able to suggest something.  It's often a good way to start getting to know people, and even if some of the members of the clubs and associations are not his age, they may have children his age.  He will pick up French more quickly too.

RHS35, what a wonderful, positive response to the OP!  Makes a change from some of the doom and gloom on here.

Im sorry we dont live nearer but if hes interested in a particular sport might be worth enrolling him into it. He will be with like minded people that share the same passion and interest. We came here 10yrs ago and my two sons had participated in Judo back in UK and were keen to continue here despite moving here in the July by September they started Judo classes here. There judo teacher spoke a tiny amount of english and took them under his wing. They flourished and it made a hell of a difference really quickly. They were 7 & 8 at the time. Their teacher is now a really close family friend along with his wife and kids.................and my Eldest still does Judo and has been UGSEL champion of France twice im proud to say :)

Good luck it can be daunting but im sure he will be fine once hes found his feet :)
