A notaire will usually give you a certified (stamped and signed) copy of your passport for nothing.

This shows the issue of not having a UK Bank account. Getting a UK account is now completely bonkers.

In terms of investment probably better for your Daughter to buy £1000 Lloyds bank shares if the Conservatives win the election and put the dividends on a DRIP - Dividend Reinvestment Plan. After 20yrs he should have a good number of shares and can either cash them or keep taking the dividend. alternatively split them and build a portfolio.

Good luck!

I would not bother, because in a few years time when there are thousands of accounts in childrens names the government (Read Bankers) will find some way of taking off them.

DN why not open him an account over here ! I bet you could get your local bank to do something for you or if not open a PEL  in your name and simply ear mark the account to be given to your Grandson, these are currently offering excellent rates!!

all the best Chris

We got our daughter to look at what her own bank offered in the way of children's savings.  She found a suitable scheme and she opened up the account with £1.  We then transferred the money we wanted to give into the child's account online.  Easy.
