I would recommend leaving the huissiers to a last resort and tryng a debt collection agency first because it's cheaper and less hassle than bringing in the huissiers. You do make a small upfront payment but if they can recover the debt it costs you nothing because they reclaim the fee from the debtor. It's often astonishing how quickly debt collectors get results. If they can't, they'll advise and assist you with the next steps, ie huissiers, if you want.

So sorry as my head is else where with a bad cold!!  Please ignore my ref. to Dordogne and replace with Bretagne to find those Huissiers near to you if required.

This might be a start to understand some basics but it will depend if it is a private or a commercial debt:-

You may be better contacting a legal Huissier (Baliff) who are official/legal debt-collectors in France as it appears to be for a certain sum of money and maybe having to go through the courts.

Be aware that it will be paying according to set fees so ask for their costs and possible time period depending upon the Tribunal where you live.

There are loads, I keep getting marketing emails from them. Google recouvrement de créances. I did approach one once and they were willing to help - but then the money arrived.

Alternatively if it's a Brit customer that has the debt, the debt recovery agency that I used to use in the UK also operates abroad. It's these people and I always found them very pleasant and efficient

There are many more too of course, and I have no connection to DCS apart from as a very satisfied client.
