Suziepops, are your neighbours French or British?

Suziepops, does it affect you or your property in any way and will it affect you if another, maybe safer building is put in its place.? If not and the digger has done its job, why worry, as it is not you who will get the back lash if they didn't have permission.

having said that, maybe you are right to have concern for your neighbour that they are doing it properly.

No BUT .........

The same obligatory, large, info board posted at the entrance to the property, denoting owner, authorisation demolition ref. no., date, surface concerned, etc. as for any Permis de Construir/Demolition and should be available to the general public but they, the public, have 2 months?, to consult the official request at the Mairie, to object in writing to the Maire and before the work begins!!!!!

There are certain communes (check with your Mairie)  where, if there is no official reply to the owner from the Mairie within the 2 months, it is permitted!!!

Here is the law:-

http://vosdroits.service-public.fr/particuliers/F17669.xhtml

Go to your Mairie and ask for proof.  You, and your neighbours, do not know what will they will be replaced with.

Yes, you do need permission to demolish a barn.

We demolished one without permission and got told off but after explaining that it was unsafe just got a "OK"

Thank you for your information, had a feeling about that.  I take it that the person still has to have permission tho and can't just demolish a building willynilly.

Any work carried out where we live is always in the village magazine which lists all planning applications from buildiing work to swimming pools, plus the neighbours always ask just in case you object.

Thank you, although we're not in the habit of stopping at the Mairie every week to look at the board to see if our neighbour is going to demolish his barn.

It isnt like in the Uk when you are sent notification of your neighbours planning applications it is for you to see them up in the Marie on the notice board.
