Agreed with the other posters. You will need a French Bank account - opening from UK maybe difficult but we found Credit Agricole Britline very useful and quite quick. But you do have to put money into this account. again in this case the first amount needs to be by bank transfer.

For transfers I have found Transferwise fast and have a good rate. 

I have shares in neither company but found both useful and helpful.

If you have time it would be an idea to open a French bank account. You will need one by the time you come to finalise the purchase. Totally agree with sabc - use a reputable foreign exchange firm. Miles cheaper than your

Yep that's the way it works,no cash,debit/cedit cards,keep and eye on the exchange rate bank transfer to a currency exchange company, they usally forward it to the notaire free,you tend to get a better rate than your bank.sabc15.

You have to pay by bank transfer. If you are not in France then this would be a SEPA or SWIFT transfer. You have to have the money in the Notaire's account a couple of days before the signing.
