Having spent a very long day starting at 5am and finishing at midnight, including a day trip to Jersey it seems that I have found the answer. Despite what you might have read in the press or what the EU might say France does not accept anyone else's Civil Partnerships. It only recognises its own PACS. It does, however, recognise all marriages be they mixed sex or same sex. Thank you to all who tried to help, especially those that pvt'd.

I have to say that I have never experienced such excellent service as that which I received at the Jersey Registry Office. 100% professional and 150% trying to do anything/everything to help. If anyone is planning a partnership/wedding (but not if you want a valid CP in France!) I can not recommend them highly enough.
