Thought I would just do an update after a visit to the tax office.  Our son had to fill in the blue form but as he has no income, either here or from the UK) and currently lives with us, he will received a tax reduction against our tax payable.  I'm pleased we asked

Thanks for reply.  He is 33 and he arrived just before Xmas 2013, so has been here over a year

Sorry, I know you say 'adult' but does that mean over 25?

If he was a student as of 1.1.14 and is under 25 you can put him on yours, it would be better for you.

If he didn't arrive until 2015 you don't mention him until next year.
