If you read the back of the bill there will be a this year/last year comparison so you should be able to work out if it's your own individual rate that has increased, or which of the components has gone up.

Hi. One reason could be the length of time you have been there. When we purchased our house the taxes stayed the same for the first 3 years, and then increased to take into account the work and changes made by the previous occupant, who had renovated the house. We got 3 years grace before the new, up to date tax kicked in. It surprised us too, as we had been unaware of this.

It may be the reason for the increase, otherwise why not ask your neighbours, or ask the tax office.
