now that is really useful info.  I have found their website and it invites me to send photos.  Gonna get onto that soon.  Thank you all so much for your input.

If you ring the Auction house the Auctioneer will come to you if needs be , easier than moving loads of instruments and its a free service !

wow!  What were they, solid gold?  Thank you for that info.  Quimper is quite a way from me but it may be worth the trip

The auction house in Quimper sold 2 Bows (Violin) for me at auction and I got a handsome 12000€ for them , very pleased !!  any good auction house will sell for you but normally with an expert on the item you are selling .. HDVBA 1 bis rue de ppont L'abbe 29000 Quimper , 0298529797.

the Auctioneer will allways give you an estimate before selling and allow you to fix the reserve price !

and with an Auctioneer your money is garanteed to be paid ..

Would agree with "Cookatreat" that the quality and fees of auction houses vary greatly. I have some that I buy at and others that I sell at. But, saying that, have had a thought:

why not google music shops in Denmark Street, London - ie, Tin Pan Alley - and pick their brains about the value of your items and where to sell. I normally find that people are quite receptive to questioning.

Good luck.

thank you for that.  I am selling vintage saxophones so don't feel I want to do that on ebay.  Will have a look at the saleroom.com though

Speaking as a collector , ( where I buy from) , you can sell on eBay , direct to specialist dealers , or to an auction house , the quality of auction houses varies and so do their fees , I buy through the saleroom.com and that will give you an idea of auction houses in the uk and France

Do a search on www.interencheres.com to find your local Hotel des Ventes. If your items are too specialised for them - ask them to recommend someone. Don't forget the selling fees which can be up to 26/27% including tax depending on where you sell.
