Our neighbour always used to just open our front door and walk in and it was always when we were having our lunch.  We keep the door locked now.

I remember years ago in the UK when it was normal to leave doors and cars unlocked and our neighbours used to come and go. In rural France it is still like that, their trust has not yet been destroyed by high levels of crime. It is part of the charm of living here I think. Having said that I always keep my front door locked but I lived in London for a while.

They always knock, our killer dog ensures that no one enters uninvited, she (Labracollie), would lick them to death!

Amongst older country folk this is normal practice.

What can you do to stop it? - Lock the door! I never leave my door unlocked, having been taken unawares by various "artisans" who have wandered in without invitation.
