To use gmail you have to be logged into a user account on google. Have you ever noticed how google advertisements seem to be targetted directly at you? I urge you not to share any personal info with google.

A samsung tablet runs on the android operating system and with appropriate settings will automatically back up any pictures taken, which will download to any new tablet or phone logged on to your Gmail account.  Security on android is such that if you have appropriate settings on the tablet you can locate it and wipe its memory the minute it is logged onto a wifi network turning it into a brick,  it doesn't need a sim card.

If you had been using dropbox the pictures would have automatically backed up online as you were taking them.

Thanks for the replies,it isn't the sort with a sim card so cannot be shut down remotely and unfortunately we hadn't backed it up yet because he's just been born but our son says he has most of the same photos so we can get some from him.

Are you able to remotely lock it or trace it? some tablets and devices have this capability . . .  if the tablet suddenly becomes a useless brick it might encourage someone to hand it in and at least you will deny them use of it anyway . . . hope it turns up Steve

You probably have already but have you checked with the airport's lost property office, it may have been handed in after considering the situation for a while, a long shot but maybe worth rechecking.
