Yes, there is help available.  Plenty of paperwork to go through, but the first person to speak to is the assistant social in your commune.  Go to your Mairie and ask to make an appointment to discuss what you need to do.  I have two neighbours in the village who have relatives in the full-time care home nearest to us, but day-care is possible in some areas as is respite care.  The financial assistance is means-tested.
