You need to visit a specialist who you will find in the yellow pages. If you have a problem, go and see your doctor who can help circumvent the waiting list. You can get an appointment direct with the ophthalmologist but that might involve up to 5-6 months waiting. The cost (without mutuelle) is about 30€. Once on their books annual exams can be booked a year in advance. There is always the "specsaver route," fine for basics and cheaper glasses, but I feel now that my specialist has my records, checks on any deterioration and if necessary will be the surgeon who performs an operation.

She also tells me that I do not need a new prescription (if I don't) and is not in the business of selling spectacles.
