Apparently it's not edf funding it its the communes so its not necessarily being done everywhere.

Edf check the lines everyear via chopper, they note any tree problems and the team roam round doing the trimming, I was told it was mainly villages and towns they were concentrating on and rural properties were way down the list, but if you are considering paying to have it done it could end up costing as much as a small cottage, we were quoted 22 grand to run a water main 500 metres.

In our neck of the woods, EDF cut the branches off any trees that might cause damage to the lines.  Give them a call, or speak to the Maire.

Thanks for the info. We are prepared to pay for it as we had a hell of a lot of trouble last year clearing the trees from an access road. You don't get owt for nowt, as they say

If they bury all the cables what will those ( who clear branches from the lines ) do for a living ?

Not all runs are suitable for underground, very much depends on the lie of the land / height of water table etc,. EDF have just replaced (completion Nov 2015) around 20 Km of cable, serving several hamlets, all on poles I suspect due to the low water table along the valley floor.

As with Kernowboy, check with your Maire they will any forthcoming plans.

There is a current project underway to put all power supplies underground but it is being done commune by commune, not piecemeal.  Might be worth speaking to your Maire he will know if and when it's likely to happen in your commune.
