Ceramic normally refers to glazed but is now sort of used for all tiles, the ones you are after are probably clay based unglazed floor tiles which would be terracotta, glazed floor tiles tended to go into more upmarket properties and fired clay went into run of the mill properties ,the poor old poor had muck, you can still buy quite a few versions new but a bit pricey.

Ceramic is a word that describes, probably all, types of floor tile.

If you need heavy duty tiles you need porcelain rather than ceramic.
