Oh dear. The "smart" functions of the TV by and large use an internet conection and as as such for UK TV content will need a VPN box to live between the TV and the internet to hide your location, YouTube and other web based stuff should work fine.

You can set up the Satellite tuner to receive all the UK channels but as you've found the program guide is a bit sketchy. If you were sold it as a FreeSat TV it may be worth complaining, one of my customers was sold a similar product and the sellers gave them a freesat HD box.

For others contemplating an integrated satellite TV for UK channels, make sure that it is a FreeSat marked TV, You can check available products on the FreeSat website if it's not listed it's probably not FreeSat and won't have the full program guide.

Hover over image to zoom.    Many tnanks to all for the advice. The model is a LG 42LB650V Full HD 3D 42" Smart TV with Freeview HD.

Re Bartyb's comment  - it is a screw in connection for the antenna. I do have a spare skybox I can use

so it looks like I'll have to forgo the smart features.

Many thanks Chalkmarks for your detailed comments but I'm too dumb to grasp most of the technicalities. I don't wanty any French channels just the UK stuff & had hoped I could receive this & use the smart functions.

Thanks again.

Sounds as if you're going through something similar to which I went through before Christmas. I bought a Samsung (hmm not so) smart one with sat tuner.

Your serial number will/should tell you for which market it is destined. UK in your case. Mine was French.

I think bartyb missed that you are getting a limited programme guide, I assume for Freesat and not a limited one for French TNT... mine did this too, which was to be expected (but still disappointingly).

Strange as yours is for the UK market... or is it really? There are stories of cheaper TVs sold in the UK but set up for European markets, so it's worth checking.

You don't say what model or make yours is.. this would help a lot, and you can almost certainly find detailed info if you spend some time searching on these details on the net.

I found I could go into the sevrice menu of mine and change the country settings. Do NOT even attempt do this if you have any doubt whatsoever what you are doing - you may end up with a non functionning set and much trouble to get it working again. I guess barytb or someone similar would be happy-ish to do this for you).. I then had a full UK sat programme guide BUT the French TNT then failed to function at all... Grrrr...

I also learned that some European models do not function on UK HD channels.. not that is a problem for us here unless you are near the coast or high up somewhere and can get freeview from the CI.

To solve the problem I had to reset the original country (France) settings and manually configure the channel order for UK freesat channels and I suppose do this everytime there is a change/new channel......

If yours is a similar Samsung I can copy and send you my channel settings if this is any help to you.

I think the only way to get a full programme guide on both French TNT and UK Freesat on mine would be to change the set's settings to UK and use it's inbuilt tuner to view Freesat and buy a set top box for TNT... but then no smart settings I imagine and certainly no smart functions, and no record function on external inputs (from the set top box)..... It's hopeless it really is, you cannot win.. and they call these smart sets!

Don't ask me about switching between sat and TNT.. it's taken me two months to get the hang of it... it doesn't help I'm sharing the sat aerial with my skybox.. but that is another story.. why on earth the tv reactivates the power supply to the dish when it is clearly turned off in the menu is quite beyond me!

When switching between French (some turned to VO - original soundtrack -and UK channels my 'smart' telly rather too often automatically decides I need subtitles... on both English and French channels... really I do despair.. who are they trying to kid.. its too smart, or dumb, for its own good!

If bartyb is reading this (and chuckling no doubt) do you have a quad lnb for an oldish and small skydish? A twin would do, but they don't do these I believe....

Well I do hope the OP is not too bemuddled by all of this but your post seems so close to what I have had to go through..

Best of luck and do tell me if I can help further....

Sounds like you're trying to connect a FreeView TV to a satellite dish, and that just doesn't work. There's a very few FreeSat TVs and a few other TVs around that have a satellite decoder built in, but unless that's what you've got you're going to need to use a satellite box for your UK TV.

The really easy way to tell is to look at the antenna connection on the TV, if it's push in it's for a terestrial aerial and if it's got a screw-on connection it's satellite.

TV's commonly have 'freeview' built in, the ones with 'freesat' built in are dearer and less common.

Are you sure yours has a satellite receiver built in and isn't just 'freeview' (which is terrestrial and needs an aerial connection)?

If it is registered in Jersey, could it be clever enough to be trying to find the UK Freeview channels which you won't get in France?
