One of my French friends was hit today, but they asked that you made a phone call for them as they needed a code as they had blocked their mobile and needed the code from an answer phone. Stupid thing was I didn't even realise it was a trojan till they asked me to make the call. So I rang her house as it didn't make sense. One of her other friends didn't realises till she'd made the 2nd lot of phone calls though. :(

This is an old one as you say.  It just seems to have reared its ugly head again.  what I would ask myself is " how many of my real friends would ask me for money"  if they are only acquaintances of mine, they wouldn't ask either.

This is certainly one to ignore.

Not a new scam and doesn't require any hacking,

Here's how it works and the important bit of advice: never accept a friend request from someone with whome you are already friends.
