There is a chap in Gouarec that will sort it out for you. Runs the brocante going towards the canal. He repaired a hot cup mark on a table for some friends of ours and you could not see it afterwards.

That only works with a thermosetic product , some laquers are thermoplastic so would go grey

I saw a repair done on a modern "poly" finish.  It was a white heat ring from a hot coffee mug.  The chap took it out with T-cut.
