I looked at buying the petrole de chauffage fuel loose by the litre and apart from being difficult to find is dearer than buying in bidons.

Leroy Merlin are cheap at the moment €0.94 per litre in 20 litre bidons.

Do not use heating oil(red diesel) in a petrole heater. I once used an electric pump to fill a petrole heater which I had previously used to pump diesel and even that tiny amount of residue made the heater smell badly of diesel. I had to empty the resovoir and fill with fresh petrole. Now I have seperate pumps clearly marked for the different fuels.

I think you will find it doesn't burn quite the same.

Using heating oil for heating is not allowed then?

Don't even think about it.  You might have a burnt RED face and the SAMU turning up, the RED pompiers and the government tax people looking for RED traces of cheating them as well!!!

I don't suppose you can run these petrole heaters on normal heating oil for the central heating (red diesel is it not)?
