Many thanks all for replying.

I will indeed enquire with Avor to see if there are any closer. In fact I have a french friend coming tommorow to phone Avor(much more difficult for me to understand french over the phone) to try and arrange something.

Concerning dechetterie compost I would also have a concern about the content of pesticides - i.e. people who dump their green waste which has been sprayed with pesticides, which are long lived. Although this may not be a concern in a flower bed, personally if I am going to consume it I would rather not eat it. I do wonder if any french authorities test to make sure it isnt too high in toxcitiy.....oh well I would rather not risk it!

Here is an official list of those who belong to an Association of Composteurs de France (biological?) but there doesn't appear to be many in your area:-

Could you not ask Arvor if there are any closer to you or maybe they can deliver?

No, far from it.

If you do take in dechetterie compost then your best recomposting it in order to deal with weed seeds and other nasties.

doesn't the high temperature reached in dechetteries kill most nasties?
