Hi all,

Thanks so much for the advice.  We have looked around the area and continue to do so.Our ideal choice would be around Pontivy.  I love the town and the canals but have to go with whats available for rent.  We're not ready to commit to buy until we have lived in France for at least a year although the houses are amazing and it is sooooo tempting!

We may have found something just outside St Nicholas du Pelham that would suit allour needs and waiting for owner to confirm.

Kind regards to you all, Anne

Good day

Would suggest a good map and look at the key important  things for you eg; access to ferry ports, airports, hospitals and schools. Also the climate - there are various sites that give you the annual sunshine and weather. Brittany is huge. This will help you narrow down the options.

There is no shortage of properties to buy in France. As you have animals you may want to look at the Notaires sites as well as the agents sites - when you identify an area. We selected Morbihan (56) as it is near the sea and only about 1 hour from Renne airport. It tends to be sunnier too a third more than London.

Good luck and bon chance.

If you are looking for open spaces plenty of walking and riding then the Monts D'Arée is good for this but can be a bit bleak in the winter as much of rural France is unless you go south

I'd suggest you try searching on Leboncoin, under Bretagne for "Locations" (rental properties). You can refine your search by region, town and price. If you find a tempting property then prospect the area by means of Google Earth. That will enable you to check out the exact location and the availability of local facilities, and may help you in drawing up a shortlist in advance of a visit.

Lanouee near Brittany should fit your bill, with the Lanouee forest on your doorstep and lots of open spaces,  try the agency's in Josselin or area 56120
