We did it with 2 x LWB Mercedes Sprinter hire vans. Total cost with ferry and hire was less than £1000. No problem at all.

We had a similar move to you. As we rented out our UK house we took a couple of steps. Packed ourselves and it came to abut £2500 but in 2 loads. Our house is in 56, 200 miles from Caen.

As advice if you can do it yourselves you will probably need to visit your house for decoration before you move in and you could always dedicate on room to storage while you get the rets of the house ready.

It is also worht considering if you are going to take any new furniture over or buy there. We were surprised that for the first time we found some IKEA France items more expensive than the UK!

Oh, and we were located in Hampshire; one motorway exit from the ferry port.  So, depending on where you are located in the UK, your costs will increase from that...

Hi Ronsmum,

To answer your question, we just moved in July.  We had a 5-bedroom house + garage; but only 1/2 the household contents were to be moved.   We had 3 removals companies give us quotes for full packing & removals service; the lowest was £4,500 after some negotiation.

With the cost of ferries & van hire, we moved ourselves.  Took 3 ttrips mind you, but we still saved over £1,000 by DIY.  I know that's not what you want to do (DIY), but it gives you a baseline comparison.

Cheers!

Have you tried a quote from Anglofrench? They are based in Kent but we have used them 3 times and always been pleased with price and service.

Have you asked Tom at TheRedDeliveryVan who advertises on this site, I'm sure he'll give you a good idea of the cost...excellent service with new vehicles at a very reasonable price

Hi, we contacted 5 removal companies for estimates (free service) before we moved over. we  asked for full removal and part removal quotes as we didn't know what property we were going to buy (we rented first)

This will at least give you a fairly good idea based on your requirements.

Hope this helps :)
