If you use weed suppressant fabric under your gravel you shouldn't need to apply weed killers, natural or otherwise...  Don't forget that weeds will also root themselves happily in your gravel afterwards, they love the drainage it provides. So you'll need to weed it during the year to keep it weed free.

That's the main reason we stopped with the vinegar - the smell.  And it works for a while but the weeds come back after about 4-6 weeks.

Do not use too much salt and vinegar at a time otherwise you'll have loads of expats turning up at your house thinking you have opened a fish and chip shop. Some species of expat can detect a fish shop at 10 kms radius apparently

Thanks for the replies!!

Have just tried my first batch in the 4:1:1 ratio - supposed to be dry for the next few days, so hopefully by the weekend will be some brown patches for me to work with.

Thanks again!

We have tried vinegar, vinegar+salt and vinegar +salt+washing up liquid and salt on it's own.

Salt on it's own works, buy coarse granulated salt and a cheap wheeled spreader, the ones they sell for spreading lawn fertiliser.

Lay it on fairly thick on  gravel driveways and it will stop weeds growing, but have a care as to where the run-off  is going to go as it will stop other plants growing.

We had our driveways landscaped a couple of years ago with granite setts haunched to create a border between the driveway and the garden and the salt doesn't migrate into the flower beds.

You need to spread it two or three times a year to keep the green plague under control.

Its 4 parts viegar 1 part washing up liquid and 1 part salt. The vinegar and salt kill the root and leaves the washing up liquid helpsit to stick to the weed.

Bonne chance.
