I encountered a similar situation with British owners - frozen and almost no water, no food.  Not only the French.

Hello its typical of french they go on holiday and just leave there animals, including there dogs  to fend for themselves, and its normaly English neighbours that  end up feeding them whilst there away,if the neighbours dont  they dont care if the animals die after there nice little holiday they just go out and get another dog, horse ,cat chickens or whatever. If you care which im sure you do you would make sure that the chickens get fresh water and if you can afford it some food its not there fault.Alternatively take the chickens out of that situation find a decent home for them and tell the owners that a fox came and took them away.after all they wont give a S**** cos if they did they would have made sure some one came in and fed/watered them whilst they were away.
