Thank you everyone for replying to my post. I accidentally came across a bike repair/servicing shop in Baud. My lucky day. (Terry I did call you a couple of times but you were out).

Decathlon do a reasonable bicycle service.

Sorry I should have added Huey that you are quite correct.  Most cheapo bikes are better taken to the tip rather than face repair.  Many of the glossy Mountain Bikes are heavy and weak in the frames often breaking with the sort of treatment Mountain Bikes are supposed to accept.

We are in France, not the UK.

George, could not agree with you more.

Whilst helping in my friends cycle shop on UK, lots of pepople were buying foreign junk online.  One I can specifically remember was fitted with the german type BB, all in one with the chainset.  Needless to say the customer quickly ruined it in fitting, and asked my mate to replace it.

Surprise surprise, the parts would have cost more than they paid for the bike.  My mate quite correctly would not touch it without prepayment!.

Most cycle shops will service your cycle and by cycle shops I don't mean the supermarkets that just sell them but the specialist cycle shops which are usually run by cycling enthusiasts.  They might be a bit sniffy about the 99 Euro Chinese Bike but usually they are happy to tell you of its limited life and try to sell you one costing several hundred or even thousand Euro.  However, they will usually service it albeit that such cheap bikes have very limited spares available.

A few years ago I took a 30 year old Raleigh with Reynolds 531 Tubing Frame and although I thought it was worthless one of the Redon Cycle Shops restored it almost to original condition including getting spares and repairing 3 wheel spokes.  It rides like a dream and the repairs cost me less than that Chinese Bike.
