Even more strange!   My husband had given up on it and I decided to have one more go and it seems to be working OK now - perhaps the gremlin in the works decided to quit.

Yes, we were in Lidl yesterday and noticed the good offer for a Pfaff machine.  We decided to have a last go at getting this one going first!

Sorry, can't help solve the problem but this machine is advertised in Lidl starting tomorrow. Looks a good machine just in case you decide to change the machine.

I have checked the bobbin and it*s OK;   The other bizarre thing (and I know it defies logic) is that the needke becomes unthreaded even though the thread is unbroken!

Don't supose you have a small burr of metal either on the spindle or inside the bobbing which is catching or on the eye of the foot lever.

Just a thought.
