Thanks so much Audrey and Vivienne - REALLY helpful stuff. We're more and more inclined to sell up here, and then rent for a few months first -  say somewhere in the Dieppe/Rouen/Caen sector - an area that I think will suit us better.  We do know those parts a bit, but it's a big decision and there's nothing like living there to find out how it really feels. Thanks again!

Why not think about the Pays d'Auge?

We used to live in the Orne and realised it was too much  "La France Profonde".  Here in the Calvados, you are near great shopping centres like Caen/Mondeville or Rouen/Le Havre, the sophistication of Deauville, the welcome change of the seaside all along the coast, yet just away from it, you can enjoy the most picturesque yet prosperous countryside. Lisieux is another lovely town for socialising and shopping. We are near Cambremer, but there are plenty of lovely villages between us and the coast.

HI! I have found the countryside between Dieppe and the A28 very pretty, but there are lots of villages like Envermu which still have the basic shops, supermarkets, etc, and Dieppe itself is pretty nice with lots of bustle, and you are still within a good striking distance of the Uk!
