This green and fertile land in the west of the country, famous for its towering chateaux and fine wines, sits around the banks of France’s largest river, the Loire. Its capital, Nantes, is the 6th largest city in France and is regularly rated amongst the best French cities to live in. It sits on the western fringes where the Loire meets the Bay of Biscay.

Travel further in land to Angers to treat your taste buds with a glass or a bottle of Anjou wine. The city of Le Mans is located is to the extreme north and gets engines revving with its annual 24 heures race in June. It also constitutes the upper extreme of a feasible Paris commute – with the TGV journey to the capital now trimmed down to just under an hour.
