You need to arrange an MOT on your return, if prearranged and the MOT station isn't a stupid distance away, it's legal. But you're likely to be questioned at the ferry dock as the system will spot the vehicle as being neither taxed not SORNED. You'll also get threatening letters from DVLC: their system cannot handle this situation. Tough it out!

You can't update photoID driving licenses to a French address either, so if yours runs out while you're here, you'll have to use an out of date one. But the police seem to be aware and accepting of this problem.
