Breakers Yards?

I'm in need of a replacement engine for my Clio and need a breakers yard which doesn't charge the earth.

I went to Autochoc in Cagnes last week and was told 1200-1500 Euros depending on mileage.  I've sourced several in the UK at around the £400 mark and would've expected a more reasonable price here as it's a common car.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is cheaper to get a recon/second hand motor in UK and have it shipped down.  There are places which can organise the whole thing for you - a friend of mine used one near Leatherhead a couple of years ago and the transport down cost something like 70 pounds, and as you say, about 300 - 400 for an engine. Saving : lots!

Like many other things here, the price of car parts is a scandal.  Ironically, cars are cheaper here than in UK, but the prices of parts are often more than double - even for French cars.
