Do you recommend buying used car from dealers?

I'm looking for a second hand car and was wondering if it is worthwhile to buy from the car dealers. I'm told they will arrange for the transfer and registration - how true is this? Do they offer after sales maintenance/service similar to if you buy a new car?

Thanks for any advice or recommendations.

The honest answer is "some do, some don't". Most will arrange the transfer on your behalf, many will offer a warranty and some (far fewer) will have servicing/repair facilities. Anyway, depending on the age of the car you'd probably want to have it serviced at a marque's main dealership (if fairly new) or by your back-street spanner-monkey of choice (if not).

Obviously, if you buy (say) a used Renault from a Renault main dealership you get almost exactly the same levels of support and service as if you were buying new - it just gets more variable if you're buying from a dedicated used car lot.
