Hertz have said they do not offer the one-way deal on vans. I think MikeP's idea is the best. Cheers!

Hertz do a one way deal with cars where you swap to a french vehicle in Calais.    The trouble is that you have to shift all your belongings from your UK vehicle into the French one.  I don't know if they do vans aswell, but it might be worth asking.

It will be prohibitively expensive, even if possible.

A better solution might be to get to your nearest point in France, rent the van there, take a cheap day trip back to UK to load up, and then drive it down to the South of France where you can leave it as one way rentals within the same country are usually possible and if not free,  at least less expensive than leaving it in another country.
