Insurance of UK-registered vehicle in France

Previous inputs to Forum indicate that AXA and Credit-Agricole may issue insurance cover to UK registered vehicles being used in France.  I have an old motor cycle with great sentimental value, but otherwise worth bugger all, that I'd like to leave in France for occasional use. Not worth the trouble of re-registering. Grateful for any hints. Thanks.

Cliff, I am a bit late with this but it may help others. I insured my Renault 19, (soon to swop for a 2CV) with Groupama insurance purely by chance. It came via Saga car insurers in England, as I am old and crusty and they say you have to be over 50. The point is that you get one years cover on the continent thrown in and don't have to let them know when you go across or how many times. I asked if it would be ok to spend all the time over in France, for example (a bit crafty, I know) and they said yes. I am no longer a Biker (broke my body up riding in England, you must be mad riding in France with the insane driving I see all around my back bumper) but can't see why it doesn't apply to them. Good luck with your sentimentality and get really good hospital insurance.

Paul,

Will do,  I have also been told by "Spitfire" that the AA is the best source for covering UK cars in France.  I'll check this out too.  I am not actually moving to France for several months - employer dependant - so if you don't hear from me for a while this won't mean I have forgotten you.

By the way, when you used AXA France did they insist on you registering your car in France after 6 months?  I have been warned that some French insurance companies do this, and I am anxious to avoid this, at least initially.

Interested to see how you got on, I had my car with Stuart C and the last quote they could give me was for £1,400 and AXA France came up with a quote around €300

Thanks TX,

I had meant to seek some ideas about using a French insurance company because I've been told they are much cheaper.  However, I will contact Stuart Collins to check them out.

Thanks again,

Cliff
