Hi GarethMy mother just received her Blue badge in the UK so I checked on whether it could be used in France when she visits me. The UK publish a booklet on how it can be used in different countries - you can download it here:

Hope the link works! It seems the rules in France are generally that you can only definitely park for free in a disabled space and must pay if you take up a paying space. But it also says there are local variations - the AA site said that in Paris and some other cities you can park on a meter or pay-and-display without paying and also exceed the maximum time allowed. But perhaps not where you are? If the fine is only 17 euros, personally I'd pay it - but might be worth checking what the rules actually are locally for next time (and if so perhaps you could let me know in case we get caught out the same way!)
