Requirements for import of an old car from Sweden

Hello,

In connection with an approaching import of an old car from Sweden to France, I am in dire need of some advice.

I have bought an old Alfa Romeo GTV 2000, 1972 Model, that I want to use in Golfe Juan in the south of France.

The Alfa comes from Sweden and in May I will drive it down to France and store it until October. As both countries are in the EU, I assume that I need not pay any tax (VAT) on the purchasing amount? At present the car is registered in the name of the former owner, but I will register it on me when I get down there again in the Autumn.

Do I have to do anything in particular when I take it into France in May, like any papers required on the border? Will it be acceptable to just leave it in my garage, remove the numberplates and return them to Sweden, and then register it with French numberplates when I get back down there in October?

I would really appreciate good advice in this matter as I am completely unfamiliar with French requirements.

Sincerely

Arne Haavaas

Arne
