They hire them out on the day near the entrance to the village/festivities area

If you like dressjng up , there are quite a few mediaeval fairs  throughout the summer, so if you make a costuime  you have potentially other occasions to wear it.

It is organised by the town. Its usually a  good day out. Most things are free - camps and demonstrations and processions but there are also usually some ticketed events-  like bird of prey  shows or horse back  acrobatics etc.

There are usually some good mediaeval style  food options- roasted meats , hippocras  and special beers as well as craft stalls.

Some poeple dress up in costume to viist or hire cortumes once there , others go in modern clothes. Kids often  wear princess dresses or  helmets and   toy swords

usually the kids stuff - coronets and veils  or pointy hats and toys swords etc are pretty affordable but  you coudl also probably get some suitable stuff at a 2 euro shop beforehand
